Thunder Bay, ON –   The Thunder Bay Chill (3-2-1) will host the undefeated Des Moines Menace (5-0-1) for a double header this coming weekend on Friday and Saturday nights. Kickoff for both events is 7:30 pm at Tbaytel Place at Fort William Stadium.  The Chill are coming off a sweep of WSA Winnipeg last weekend with a clean sheet for Campbell University graduate Matthew Mozynski, in a 4-0 win on Saturday after taking the Friday night event by a score of 2-1.

The Menace are coming off a draw with Kaw Valley FC and have beaten every other opponent in the Heartland Division.   The Chill need results from both of this weekend’s games in order to make a run at the playoffs after missing the post season in 2018 for only the second time since 2007.

During the past 19 seasons the Chill and the Menace have met on 62 regular season occasions with the Menace holding a 32-25-5 advantage.  The Menace took both games in 2018 by a 3-0 and 1-0 scores.  During the past 12 seasons the Heartland has been won by either the Menace or Thunder Bay.

The Chill have continued to recruit after a slow start to the 2019 season.  New arrivals include Kyosuke Kubota (Japan) from the University of Central Arkansas, Anouar Adam (Germany) from Lindsey Wilson College (Kentucky), and Tulio Melo (Brazil) from Rocky Mountain College (Montana).  Coach Giovanni Petraglia feels that the new arrivals will strengthen the club defensively.  “We want to keep our goals against to a minimum, and give our offense a chance to win games”, said Petraglia.  “This weekend is very important for us in our quest to make the playoffs”, he continued.

The Chill are on a five game home stand, with new arrivals Green Bay Voyageurs here on June 29th, St. Louis Lions on Canada Day and Kaw Valley FC on July 6th.  The Chill will end the regular season on the road with two against the Menace and one in Green Bay in mid-July.
