Thunder Bay Chill’s Manuel Achondo (15) breaks out of his zone against WSA Winnipeg on Saturday at Fort William Stadium.

Marco Kummerle and Justin Earle scored first-half goals and the Thunder Bay Chill cruised to a 3-0 win over WSA Winnipeg on Saturday at Fort William Stadium.

The Chill (1-2-1) picked up their first victory in the United Soccer League Two regular season after settling for a 1-1 tie on Friday.

Luka Glusecevic also scored for Thunder Bay. The Chill will next head on the road to face this same Winnipeg club for two games next weekend. WSA Winnipeg fell to 0-6-1.

“We needed nothing less than three points (Saturday),” Chill coach Giovanni Petraglia said. “We’re coming out of this weekend with less than what we expected, but that’s the way season started. We just have to be ready to bounce back.”

Kummerle buried a 25-yard shot to beat Winnipeg keeper Svyatik Artemenko in just the seventh minute. Earle doubled the lead in the 18th minute when he booted home a rebound on a Chill corner kick.

The Chill owned complete control of the game, keeping the ball on the Winnipeg end for virtually the entire first half.

Glusecevic rounded out the scoring for the home team in the 75th minute when a rebound from a Sullivan Silva shot landed at the doorstep.

Chill keeper Matthew Mozynski made his first save of the game in the 79th minute.

Thunder Bay’s next home games are June 21-22 against the Des Moines Menace. The Menace are second in the Heartland Division with a 4-0-0 record. Des Moines visits the St. Louis Lions today.

Kaw Valley FC leads the division at 4-1-2.
