The Thunder Bay Chill earned a split this weekend
over the division leaders Real Colorado Foxes in Denver, Colorado.
The Chill lost 2-1 in Friday's game, however, rebounded with a strong 3-0
win in the second match up Saturday night. Goal scorer in Friday's loss was
Juan Velez who took a perfect cross from Jordian Farahani in the second
half. The Chill had numerous opportunities to tie the game; however came up
short. Farahani entered the game in the 2nd half and had a solid performance
leading the midfield defensively and in attack.
The second night was much different as the Chill got on the scoreboard early
after Sullivan Silva was taken down in the box by Colorado keeper Rosalis.
Juan Velez converted the penalty kick to earn the Chill a 1-0 lead. It was
15 minutes later when Dominic Roberts took a shot from 20 yards out that
deflected by a Colorado player into the net.
The Chill had organized very tight in defense as Colorado pushed to get on
the board but were continually stopped by 9 year veteran Stephen Paterson.
Sullivan Silva completed the scoring in the 70th minute for his 4th of the
season and a 3-0 final win for the Chill.
"It was an important win for our club and the new players we have. It is
always difficult to play in Colorado and I thought we had a poor first half
in Friday's game. We were much better prepared for tonight's game,"
commented Head Coach Colistro.
The Chill will now return home to face the St. Louis Lions who trail the
Chill by one point in the standings. This will be the Lions first trip in
two years to the Bay as they did not get selected to travel to Thunder Bay
last season. Games are June 8th and 9th at Chapples Park. Kickoff is 7:30pm.
Game day tickets can be purchased in advance at Central Car Wash or the
Sports Dome Tuesday and Thursday between 5:30pm - 7:30pm.
