Chill See Double Gold at USA Cup
(Blaine, MN)

The Thunder Bay Chill Soccer Club sent eleven local youth teams to the 2010 Schwan’s USA Cup this past weekend in Blaine, Minnesota, with two of those teams achieving gold in their respective divisions. The U11 Developmental Males and U14 Select Males both battled through tough competition to bring home gold, while several other Chill teams performed admirably in their flights.

The U9, U10 Academy Males, and U10 Academy Females all took part in the Jamboree style of play at the USA Cup that emphasizes development and positive experience for the players.

The U12 Developmental Females were in the tournament style "B Flight" amassing a record of 1-1-1, before being eliminated in the group stages on goal difference. Similarly, the U13 Elite Females took part in the "A Flight", finishing with a record of 1-1-1, narrowly missing out on the knock-out stages of the tournament. The U19 Reserve Females advanced to the semi final of the "B Flight" with a record of 2-1-0, eventually losing 1-0 to the Golden Valley Firebirds.

The U11 Developmental Males began their journey to gold in the "A Flight" by finishing the group stages with a record of 3-0-0, putting themselves a top their group. In the semi finals the Developmental Males defeated the North Metro Blue Ice by a score of 7-1. In the final, the Developmental Males saw themselves go down quickly 2-0. However, in the second half they mounted a comeback, capped off by a Cian Corcoran game-winning goal with ten minutes left in the match to hand the Developmental Males a 3-2 win. Head Coach Dave Colistro was very happy with his teams effort, stating; "We went down 2-0 but knew we were not out yet, we made a few adjustments and showed great composure and determination to come back and win the game.

The U12 Developmental Males participated in the "B Flight" and finished the tournament with a record of 0-0-3, not advancing to the knock-out stages. U13 Elite Males met a similar fate, as they finished their group stages in the "A Flight" with a 1-0-2 record, also missing out on the knock-out stages.

The U14 Select Males walked through the group stages finishing first with a record of 3-0-0 to advance to the quarter final. The Selects beat the Green Bay Lighting 2-0, to move on to the semi final, where they beat Eastside Arsenal 2-0. In the finals the Selects took on the ASC Celtics and won 3-1, taking the USA Cup U14 Boys "A Flight" Championship crown. The Selects only allowed one goal all tournament, the defense was led by goalkeeper Sandy Davidson-Hunt.

The Thunder Bay Chill Soccer Club would like to congratulate all its teams for their strong showing at this year’s USA Cup.
