It was a weekend of workshops and player development for Thunder Bay Chill Reserve Players and Coaches. The weekend host was Stuart Neely, Academy Manager and 1st team staff coach of the Toronto FC professional soccer club.
Friday’s activities was dedicated to Chill Reserve coaches with the main topic being the “Role of the Coach” followed by an open forum for parents in which Neely described the Toronto FC academy program. The forum was well attended with many parents coming out to hear about the TFC academy. Also in attendance was Francesco Greco of Italy, representing “Gielle”, official uniform supplier of the Chill to unveil the 2010 uniforms and player kits. A special visit by CEO of the Ontario Soccer Association, Guy Bradbury, who spoke to the Chill coaching staff about the strategic direction of the OSA technical department was also added in the program.
Saturday and Sunday was completely dedicated to the Chill Reserve players where Neely put on a variety of different sessions for all players of the Reserves male and female program. Good weather was in store and much discussion between Neely and Chill staff coaches was shared on the field . Each team had 18 plus players on the outdoor field at Chapples Park. Players were engaged in technical sessions that staff coaches wanted Neely to execute. “ Great weather, great coaching, and lots of fun in a learning environment was what I saw come out this weekend. I look forward to doing this again in the near future,” commented Technical Director Tony Colistro. Next up for guest coaching appearances for Chill players is Bryan Rosenfeld, Director of High Performance Player Development for the Ontario Soccer Association and former U17 Womens’ Canadian National Team. Bryan will be in the city during the Christmas break.
